Book Title: WILL THE REAL ABI SAUNDERS PLEASE STAND UP
Author: Sara Hantz
Release Date: May 6, 2014
Genre: YA Contemporary Romance
I absolutely loved this book. When I started reading it, I was a little leery; I was worried that maybe this book wasn’t for me, but it was. One of my favorite things about this book is that it is fairly realistic. Abi wasn’t a popular girl; she was just a normal girl, with the exception of her stutter and her stellar kickboxing skills that is. Abi spends most of her time with her two best friends Liv and Matt. Abi has been crushing on Matt since pretty much forever, but he dates just about every girl he meets, and he isn’t good with serious attachments so Abi is scared to tell him how she feels and just accepts that that whole thing is a no go. All Abi wants to do is spend time with her friends and kickbox, but one day the owner of the dojo she practices at presents an interesting idea to her; be a stunt double. Abi does NOT want that for herself, but her friends talk her into it, and she get the part, but as she gets further into “the biz,” she starts to change. Gone is the Abi that let people push her around, but sadly, so is the Abi that was always there for her friends.
It was interesting to watch Abi go from being meek to, well not exactly outgoing, but more brave and less meek. I liked watching her grow as a character. I’m not going to lie, there were some moments where all I could think was, “Oh, Abi. Why’d you go and do that?” I also had moments where I just wanted to fist pump and hoot and holler and give Abi a standing ovation. I may not have a stutter, but I felt like I could relate to Abi. It’s hard to be around people who are so very different from you; different people can test your strength and your resolve and can change you as a person, which isn’t always a good thing.
I so loved how this book ended! The ending was definitely one of those standing ovation moments. I just wanted to implant myself in the book and high five Abi. She should be an example to girls everywhere!
I really hope you guys check this book out, because it is totally worth it.
Abi Saunders might be a kickboxing champion, but when it comes to being the center of attention, she’d rather take a roundhouse kick to the solar plexus any day. So when her trainer convinces her to audition to be the stunt double for hot teen starlet Tilly Watson, Abi is shocked—and a little freaked out—when she gets the job.
Being a stunt double is overwhelming, but once the wig and makeup are on, Abi feels like a different person. Tilly Watson, to be exact. And when Tilly’s gorgeous boyfriend, Jon, mistakes Abi for the real star, Abi’s completely smitten. In fact, she’s so in love with her new life, it isn’t long before she doesn’t have time for her old one.
But when the cameras are turned off, will she discover running with the Hollywood A-list isn’t quite the glamorous existence she thought it was?
We would not have this wonderful book if it wasn’t for Sara Hantz!
